Dr. Juan J. Rivera is a board certified Internist and Cardiologist, trained at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. He specializes in the prevention, early detection and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

He serves a a reviewer for most of the major peer-reviewed scientific Cardiology journals and has published extensively in the area of Cardiovascular Prevention". He was the Chief Medical Correspondent for Telemundo/NBC Network from 2009-2013 with weekly appearances on Telemundo’s national shows “Al Rojo Vivo” and/or “Noticiero Telemundo”.

On February 2013 Dr. Rivera was named the Chief Medical Correspondent for Univision Network as well as the new channel Fusion = ABC + Univision.

He will have appearances on Noticiero, Primer Impacto, Despierta America and Al Punto.

He holds voluntary academic appointments in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Miami.

In May 2012 Dr. Rivera was named Director of Cardiovascular Prevention of Mount Sinai Hospital Miami Beach.

Practicing medicine is the art of mixing certain important elements that together lead to a patient’s state of well being. Education, clinical instincts and skills, compassion, empathy and a profound desire to help others combine into a perfect storm of competency and excellent bedside manners. It should be not only about curing disease but also about preventing illness and communicating to patients the knowledge to live healthy lives. Being a doctor has to do with listening and understanding the patient’s needs as much as it has to do with knowing the right treatment for a disease process. Arrogance and ego have no place in a profession in which is all about the patient, not the doctor.
